1
Speak Naturally (Seriously)
Don't talk like a robot. Flow is designed to understand natural speech patterns, including "um," "uh," and even mid-sentence corrections. If you say "let's meet Tuesday... actually, make that Wednesday," Flow writes "let's meet Wednesday." Just talk like you normally would.
2
Create 10-15 Core Snippets First
The real productivity unlock happens when you build your snippet library. Set up shortcuts for your most-typed content first: email, phone, scheduling link, and 5-7 common responses. You'll save hours every week.
3
Use Hands-Free for Long Dictations
Writing a long email or document? Use hands-free mode (Fn + Space on Mac) so you don't have to hold a key. Perfect for 500+ word dictations.
4
Check Your Mic Settings
Built-in mics work best. If Flow isn't picking up your voice well, go to Settings → Microphone and select your built-in mic instead of "Auto-Detect." Bluetooth mics add delay and reduce accuracy.
5
Train Flow on Your Vocabulary
Flow learns as you use it. When it misses a word (like a client name or technical term), manually correct it once. Flow adds it to your personal dictionary automatically with Auto-Add enabled.
6
Different Apps = Different Tones
Flow automatically adjusts your tone based on the app. Professional in Gmail, casual in iMessage, concise in Twitter. You can customize these tone rules in Settings → App Tones if you want more control.
7
Dictate While Walking
Use your iPhone with AirPods to dictate during walks, commutes, or whenever you're on the move. Some people do their best thinking while walking—now you can capture those thoughts instantly.
8
Check Recent Activity for Recovery
All your dictations are saved in Recent Activity for 24 hours. If you accidentally close a window before pasting, you can retrieve the text there. Settings → Recent Activity.
9
Switch Languages Mid-Sentence
Flow supports 100+ languages and can detect language switches automatically. Perfect for bilingual conversations, international clients, or code-switching. Just keep speaking naturally.
10
Use Creator Mode for Screen Recording
Recording a tutorial or demo? Enable Creator Mode in Settings to show "Dictating with Wispr Flow" on screen. Great for demonstrating productivity workflows or creating content about voice dictation.
11
Practice the "Pause and Think" Method
Don't rush. Flow handles natural pauses perfectly. Pause to think, gather your thoughts, then continue speaking. Your pauses won't appear in the text—Flow knows the difference between thinking and finishing.
12
Reduce Background Noise
For best accuracy, minimize background noise. Close windows, mute music (or enable auto-mute in settings), and find a quiet spot. The clearer your audio, the better Flow performs.
13
Use Command Mode for Edits
Say "delete that" or "new paragraph" to make quick edits without touching your keyboard. Flow understands basic editing commands mid-dictation.
14
Set Custom Hotkeys
Don't like the default hotkey? Change it in Settings → Keyboard Shortcuts. Pick whatever key combination feels natural to you. Some people prefer Caps Lock or Right Shift.
15
Dictate First, Edit Later
The fastest workflow: Dictate everything first without stopping. Get your thoughts out. Then go back and edit with your keyboard. Separating creation from editing saves massive time.
16
Use Snippets for AI Prompts
Create snippets for your go-to ChatGPT, Claude, or Midjourney prompts. Say "blog prompt" and Flow pastes your entire prompt template. Massive time saver for AI power users.
